Tie rod ends

As the name suggests, the tie rod end is bolted to the outer end of the tie rod. Together with the tie rod, it ensures the transmission of your steering commands to the wheels and has the task of keeping the vehicle on the desired track. The tie rod end is a so-called adjustable angle joint that is capable of transmitting mechanical forces according to a preset angle that is precisely matched to your vehicle.

If a tie rod end is worn out or broken, your steering movements can no longer be transmitted cleanly to the wheels. The result: not only does the steering become spongier; when you perform steering manoeuvres, the car noticeably swerves to the side – with the direction depending on the affected angle joint. If the worst-case scenario occurs, you will no longer be able to steer the vehicle. Since this is a safety-relevant component, you should react promptly to a defect and order a new tie rod end.
