Timing chains are still installed in some vehicles with four-stroke engines – mostly in older models. In the meantime, they have been largely replaced by toothed belts. Unlike a timing belt, a timing chain is made of metal and therefore more durable, even almost maintenance-free. It is the connecting piece between the camshaft and the drive shaft and is thus responsible for opening and closing the valves in the engine at the right time.

If the timing chain is defective, the timing within the engine is no longer correct and there is a risk of devastating engine damage.
